Try these together

Three creative projects, step by step.

01

Draw the story in three moments

Create a character, an obstacle and a solution in three picture panels. Make sure someone can explain what changed.

Try asking: A first draft with clear meaning is better than an over-detailed picture.

02

Perform the scenes

Move paper characters across a tabletop as a family member narrates each panel. Change the order once and discuss what becomes confusing.

Try asking: Let each person contribute a role: narrator, artist, or storyteller.

03

Edit without a screen

Arrange six storyboard cards, remove one that adds no information and repeat the narration. Notice what became clearer.

Try asking: This introduces the editing idea before using a video-editing app.

Beyond the fun

What children can practise

Story structure, sequencing, collaboration and editing decisions. The aim is to practise these habits, not to promise better marks or a specific profession.

Connect it to school

Literature, speaking, story sequencing and persuasive communication.

Adult notes & age adjustments

Use original characters and music; keep children’s identifying details private. If you later film, use adult-operated devices and permission for sharing.

Ages 6–8: voice-and-picture story. Ages 9–12: six frame storyboard. Ages 13–16: cuts, pacing and narration plan.

For parents • Optional next step

Enjoyed making this? Build the skill as a hobby.

The fun here connects to Animation and video editing. Arts Film Academy publishes creative classes combining traditional and digital learning. Ask about age eligibility, class formats, sample work and the teaching team before choosing a hobby class.

Ages under 7: enjoy the home activities with an adult; check Arts Film Academy’s published eligibility and current batches before enquiring. Contact information must be confirmed by the website owner.

OPTIONAL NEXT STEP FOR PARENTS

Want to go further with animation and storytelling?

If children enjoy telling stories in frames, compare beginner animation paths. Compare suitable options, check actual class availability and decide whether a guided class is right for your family. AtFunky activities remain free.
